iTunes, and now Netflix, are going to cause me to go broke. I have no willpower to resist their lure. With these two resources, I feel as if I have the world at my fingertips.
It wasn't enough that I went to Best Buy yesterday and picked up some Farscape DVDs, a Dresden Dolls cd, and a Snow Patrol cd. (In my defense, I had previously ordered the Farscape DVDs and Dresden Dolls cd through Amazon, but the package got lost in the mail so I never received them.) Today I purchased Regina Spektor's new cd off of iTunes. I heard one of her songs the other day while at a bar, and I loved it. Her style reminds me slightly of the Dresden Dolls. And I then recalled
barilace raving about her cd, so I bought it. I'm listening to it now, and it's fabulous!!
On top of buying the cd, I joined Netflix today. I'm sure I'm one of the last ones in this world to have discovered the beauty of Netflix, but I am so psyched. I already have Season 1 of The Office, Season 4 of Farscape and Seasons 1, 2 and 3 of Scrubs in my queue. I'm convinced that paying $10 a month to rent all these DVDs will be much cheaper in the long run than buying all these DVDs for myself. Now I'm trying to rack my brain for every movie or TV show I've ever wanted to watch, but haven't. Help me! Give me suggestions!
Oh, and one other question. Who on my flist has TiVo or some sort of DVR service? I'm seriously considering entering the age of the DVR, preferably before the new TV season starts in September. But the roomie and I have figured that regardless of whether we use TiVo or just get a DVR through our cable company, it's going to cost us at least an extra $20 a month. So, for those of you have a DVR, what do you use? Do you love it? Is it worth the money you spend for it? Is one kind better than another? I'm technologically stunted, I fear, so I'd appreciate any info anyone cares to share.

As I was reading this, I was like "Regina Spektor sounds familiar". And then, I realized it was because of you. You'll have to let me know how her CD is.
Oh. Speaking of DVDs, I know one that you already have that you must watch L'Auberge Espagnole. As for TV shows... Dead Like Me. It's awesome. Trust me on this. If you don't want to believe me, I'll be forcing you to watch an episode when you visit :-)

Actually, I'm not watching them. It's very strange, but I'm just not dying to watch them. I'm currently in the process of rewatching S3. It's amazing how much I missed or just didn't pick up on the first time through because it had been so long since I'd seen the first two seasons. I have a feeling I'll take the first collection of S4 with me to my parents and watch it there.
You'll have to let me know how her CD is.
Will do. I like what I've heard so far. But I plan on really listening to it on the way to work tomorrow. Or maybe the way home. Who knows. I have a lot of new music to listen to at the moment. I love the Snow Patrol cd, by the way!
Dead Like Me. Duly noted. I will put it on my queue. And I plan to watch L'Auberge Espagnole on Tuesday, or if not Tuesday, while I'm at my parents' house.

Other artists to download at iTunes… Well, ways to go broke (hahaha):
Cat Power
Goldfrapp (I think it's two p's..it might be one)
Neko Case
Rasputina
And of course. Ms. Amos. I am and will always be Tori's bitch.
I am also Netflix's BITCH! I love it so! People at Fan Forum kept recommending it to me left and right. I'd heard about on TV/etc but it just sounded fishy, so I never signed up. But. Now. I love it. It's one of the good things I got out of posting at Fan Forum. Also falling in love with House.
God, we're all such slaves to music, television, and books. Haha.

And don't feel bad. I have so many TV show DVDs listed on my queue at Netflixs. It would probably take me two years to watch all of them. Sad. I'm such a TV addict, but I like watching the DVDs. I can set the time of when I want to watch. How long I want to watch. And when I want to stop and do something else. I think GG is the only show that I make a point to watch weekly. I'm just weird like that. Haha.

Oh, Farscape is love. ;-)
It's a sci-fi show. The main character, John Crichton, goes on a space mission (The Farscape Project) - something about using the earth's gravity to shoot him into space - and ends up getting shot through a wormhole and ends up in a different galaxy, essentially. He ends up on a ship, Moya - she's a living ship, actually - with a bunch of escaped alien prisoners. (Prisoners who were wrongfully prisoned.) There's also a woman soldier (Aeryn Sun) who ends up on the ship from a race called Sebacceans. She looks like a human for all intents and purposes. And they end up being on the run together on this ship and sort of become a family. And there's a fabulous, fabulous romance between John and Aeryn.
Some of the creatures on the show are muppet creatures...so they're very, very bizarre sometimes. But really, it's a character-driven show anyway, so I love the relationships between all the main characters. If you like space shows at all, I'd definitely give it a try. John and Aeryn are seriously the hottest couple I have seen on TV. Amazing, amazing chemistry. And the actors are really great friends in real life, which makes it even better. *points to icon* That's John and Aeryn.
Poor you - getting such a long explanation. I can't help it, though. I love Farscape.

Thanks for all the music recs. And for trying to help me succeed in going broke. ;-)
God, we're all such slaves to music, television, and books. Haha.
That is so, so true. But it's why I love being me. ;-) And it's why I love all you LJ peeps.

I have TiVo and I loooove it. Mostly it's great because I sucked at taping--I was constantly mistaping things and missing episodes and stuff. This way, it's pretty foolproof and I don't need to know what's on when, and it just takes care of it for me. The downside is that I can't figure out how to tape to video from TiVo, so I can't really tape things for other people.

Thanks for the information on your experience with TiVo. I'm sure I'll be breaking down soon. And yes, when you join Netflix, we will have to swap stories of its wonders. Hee!

Uh, okay. You just responded. And here I thought you were ignoring me. I actually referred to a little kid as a midget today. Was that wrong? No. Not at all. They tested my patience like no other. For real.
But our phone conversation made me remember why I love you so very much. I'll make a list later and you'll revel in it.
You know what movie is good? Benny & Joon. Johnny Depp is hot and amazing. Or, The Hours. Meryl Streep makes me smile as does Nicole Kidman. And, that other chick. They're good. Yeah. I love movies. So, I could just babble all night about movies you should see.
LOVE YOU.

Our phone conversation was the highlight of my day. It's only downfall was that it was too short. I should have eaten lunch faster and called you sooner!!!
I will have to add your movie suggestions to my Netflix queue. I love the word queue. It's so much better than line.
I LOVE YOU TOO! You have no idea how much....
