I saw The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe tonight. I was in the restroom after the movie, and I heard a girl telling her friends, "The book was so much better than the movie." Now, unlike
enigmaticblues, I have not read the book 10 times. However, I have read it twice (and once fairly recently), so it's safe to say that I'm fairly familar with the book. For me, the experience of the movie was very different than that of the girl in the restroom. The movie brought the book to life and made the experience of seeing it on screen much more real to me than just reading the book. Not that I don't love the book...because I do. A lot.
My favorite part of the Chronicles of Narnia in general is the allegory. It's the part of the story that touches me at some level that no other story ever will. As
enigmaticblues said, it touches the soul...or at least it does mine. Aslan is probably my favorite fictional character of all time. C.S. Lewis' allegory is just so beautiful that he has made the character of Aslan very real and personal to me. In my mind, Aslan really is the perfect allegory for Christ. So the scene with Aslan sacrificing himself for Edmund at the stone table and Lucy and Susan weeping over him, it hits me in the gut every single time. I sobbed at that scene in the movie just like I do at that scene in the book. I think I cry more over The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe than I do over The Passion of the Christ.
Anyway, I do go on. To focus more on the movie, I thought the actors who played Lucy and Edmund in particular were really exceptional. But Peter and Susan were great as well, and I loved the sibling dynamics that the movie brought out to play. And I thought the relationship between Lucy and Tumnus in the movie was just precious. Plus, I really thought they gave Edmund a lot of heart in the movie, and I really liked him.
So there you have my thoughts on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe whether you wanted them or not. Now it's back to the real world... *sigh*

The funny thing is that it was't until about a month ago when I started reading the 7th book (which, for some reason, I had never finished when I started reading it about 5 years ago), that I realized that the Chronicles of Narnia is totally the story of Christ. So now I want to read the book again, since it's been about 9 years. I'm trying to decide if I want to read it again before I see the movie or not. hmmm...
