I've been feeling all domestic this evening. I made my first pumpkin roll of the season. Sadly, it didn't turn out all that well. In a stupid yet somewhat impressive move, I managed to get the spatula stuck in the beaters of the blender when I was making the cream cheese filling for the pumpkin roll. The beaters got terribly bent up, and thus the frosting didn't get mixed quite as well as it should have. Luckily, it still tastes yuuuuuuuuuuummy! And my roomie managed to bend the beaters back into shape with some pliers. Then, the pumpkin roll cracked a bit when I was rolling it back up, so it doesn't look very pretty. Once again, luckily looks has nothing to do with taste.

I like baking, and this was the first time in months that I've actually done it, so it was fun. I also made a jello salad for tomorrow's big dinner. The favorite Banta family recipe is homemade chicken and noodles (we eat them on top of mashed potatoes). It's usually a dish that we eat at holidays. Well, I've raved about chicken and noodles so much to several of my friends that they demanded I make it for them last year. And once they ate the chicken and noodles last year, they told me that I would be making it every year. Thus tomorrow marks the second annual chicken noodle dinner prepared by yours truly. So that's what I'll be doing all day tomorrow. Making the noodles from scratch, cooking the chicken, and cleaning the apartment in preparation for people coming over tomorrow night for dinner. It's a lot to do, but I've got to say that I really enjoy making this dinner for everyone. It reminds me that I actually can cook, and it gives me a great sense of accomplishment. Now here's hoping the noodles actually turn out. They're a bit touchy, and I've got to make a lot.

In other news, I received a bit of good news at work today. I won't bore you with the details, but I will say that it took a little bit of the load off me. I'm not kidding myself that things aren't going to suck over the next several months, but this might reduce the amount of suckage a wee little bit. And at this point, every little bit counts for my sanity.

Oh, and I just watched the 6x08 AOL clip for the upcoming Gilmore Girls episode. I think it's going to be a good one. I can't wait!!

And wow, I can stuff a lot of random crap into a post...

Mmm! I love pumpkin rolls! I can't wait until Thanksgiving week when my mom makes them. It's like a yearly tradition of her cursing at them and swearing that she'll never make them again.

I'm glad that work may be sucking a little less.

This is the best time of year! For food and friends and all the traditions the holidays bring. Pumpkin roll is one of my favorite things in the whole world. And luckily the recipe I have is fairly easy. That or I've just made so many of the past few years, it seems easy to me.

I'm glad too. Now if I could just figure out how to support myself as a lazy bum, that would be awesome.

My mom hates cooking, and she hates baking even more. So every year, she swears that she'll never do it again. It's like a tradtion.

Sell Eiffel Tower trinkets on a street corner in Paris. I'm telling you, it's a gateway to success!

I would probably be cursing the pumpkin roll if I hated baking, too. Good thing I don't...because last year I made four of them over the course of a week to pass out to friends (the same ones who I'm making chicken and noodles for tomorrow). I decided I didn't have enough time or energy to do that this year.

And you're right. It is. Maybe I'll just leave it all behind and head to Paris on Sunday. ;-) Care to join me? Ohhh...if only I were a spontaneous person.

I love to bake! But if I bake, I'll have so many sweet things around, and that's not a good thing. Yeah, that is a lot of work to do.

Bien sur!! I'd be there in a heartbeat.
