James Blunt concert = really, really, really, really, really good. I always thought James Blunt would be one of those sit-on-a-stool-and-sing-you-a-sweet-song sort of performers, but he's not at all. He's funny; he's all over the stage; he jams out; he jumps off of monitors. All in all, he's a great performer. The visual effects were fantastic. His lyrics are intelligent and so, so good. And I may have almost cried three separate times during the concert. Once during Cry and once during Goodbye My Lover because they are such beautifully sad songs. Also, once during No Bravery. For those of you not in the know, James Blunt served in the British Army and spent at least part of 1999 in war-torn Kosovo. He wrote No Bravery as a reflection of that experience. Tonight while singing it, he showed footage and got choked up himself, thus explaining my teary state. He also sang some new songs, and I think his next cd will be even better than the first.
The opening band, Starsailor = my new favorite band. I kid you not. I'm in love. Why have I never known of them before? Actually, I now realize that I have one of their songs on a Luke and Lorelai soundtrack called She Just Wept. I love that song, but I was stupid, and never sought out more Starsailor music. Now I am sad. They are fantastic, and my roommate and I will now make up for lost time by buying all their cds and gushing over them. The band signed autographs after their set, and while my roommate and I were standing in line to buy a cd, the band walked right in front of us. We were barely able to contain our fangirlish selves. But who can blame us? They are British, and they are cute.
Not-so-highlights from the concert = the so-not-sexy butt cleavage shown often by a girl sitting in front of us at the concert; the couple sitting in front of us that spent half the concert groping and making out with one another; and the couple next to us that talked loudly through half the concert. Apparently they were on a first date, but my roommate and I did not care. DO NOT CARRY ON A CONVERSATION DURING A CONCERT, PEOPLE! Oh well, at least all of these things provided my roommate and I with snarky things to talk and giggle about on our hour-long drive home.
Now, I am off to beddy bye.
