1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?

Fly overseas, take a train through the Chunnel, travel in London and Paris, golf, enter a tanning salon (both for a spray tan and to fake bake - oh the things we do when we're bridesmaids), attend a Christina Aguilera concert, attend a Switchfoot concert, attend an Avril Lavigne concert, and have a cat for a pet (albeit only for three days)

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don't remember making any resolutions for 2007. My resolution for 2008 might be to train to run two miles in the 2008 Corporate Cup in Omaha in September. I set this goal for myself for 2007's Corporate Cup, but I didn't follow through with it.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yes. My friend Lauren gave birth to a baby boy, Chase Daniel, in June.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Yes. Sadly, the same baby mentioned in Question 3 died in October when his daycare provider dropped him on his head and then put him to bed. She did not call 911 until after he was already dead. Chase's death, along with having to watch Lauren and her husband Dan suffer, was definitely the low point of 2007.

5. What countries did you visit?

England and France

6. Did you have any crushes?

Other than a crush on Steve Carell, sadly no.

7. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

A boyfriend. Or at the very least, a dating life. I plan to join the world of online dating in 2008.

8. What dates from 2007 will remain etched in your memory, and why?

July 1-15, the two weeks I spent traveling around London and Paris with my friend Tara; August 18, because I was a bridesmaid on my birthday, and I got to blow out a candle on the wedding cake; October 18, the day I found out baby Chase had died; October 19, the day Celeste and I visited Lauren and Dan at their house after hearing about Chase's death; October 22, the day I attended Chase's funeral; December 5, the day of the Westroads shooting in Omaha.

9. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Planning two successful trips. One to London and Paris in July and the other to Florida in November.

10. What is your biggest failing of 2007?

Probably the perpetual failure I always have, which is not being speedy at my work. I would say that going yet another year without a boyfriend is another failure, but I didn't spend any significant time in 2007 trying to get one. There was the boy my friend Sarah tried to hook me up with at her wedding in August. I did talk, dance and exchange phone numbers with him. I even e-mailed him and asked him out on a date, but he already had a girlfriend. I don't consider that a failure, though. It's an accomplishment to have actually put myself out there for the first time in a really long time.

11. Did you suffer illness of injury?

Other than a cold in July and some bad allergies in September, no. The cold in July coincided quite nicely with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, so I stayed home sick from work one day and finished the book.

12. What was the best thing you bought?

A plane ticket to England and a train ticket to Paris. Second to that is probably my iPod. Third is probably the pink jacket I purchased at H&M while in Paris.

13. Whose behavior merited celebration?

I have really admire the way Lauren and Dan have quietly dealt with their son's death. And, as always, I'm very proud of my best friend for continuously putting her nose to the grindstone, kicking ass in law school, landing herself a sweet job as the clerk for the Chief Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court next year, and most recently, finding herself a great guy to date.

14. Whose behavior made you appalled and disgusted?

As usual, the Paris Hiltons, Lindsay Lohans, and Britney Spears of the world. Also, Robert Hawkins, who walked into Von Maur at Westroads mall in Omaha on December 5 and opened fire, killing himself and eight other people. I'm appalled at all such acts of violence, but the Westroads shooting hits the closest to home as the mall is about a mile from where I work.

15. Where did most of your money go?

Rent, utilities, gas, food, clothes, bridesmaids dresses, and vacations to Europe and Florida.

16. What did you get really really excited about?

My trip to London and Paris. My trip to Florida. The Switchfoot and Avril Lavigne concerts I attended.

17. What song will always remind you of 2007?

I don't tend to remember music by years, so honestly, I don't expect any song to remind me of 2007 specifically. Mostly, music reminds me of events in my life.

18. Compared to this time last year are you?

a) Happier or Sadder? I think I'm the same. I feel like I'm stuck in the same old up and down rut.
b) Thinner or Fatter? A bit thinner. Or, at least more toned.
c) Richer or Poorer? I really don't know. I feel poorer after the expensive year I've had, but I'm probably a bit richer. Or at least even with last year.

19. What do you wish you'd done more of?

I wish I would have slept more. I'm a perpetual night owl who has to be at work by 8 am, thus I'm constantly exhausted. Maybe 2008 will be the year I learn to go to bed by 11 pm. I doubt it. I'm also bad about keeping in contact with my real-life friends, even the ones that live in town. I wish I had spent more time checking up on their lives and hanging out with them.

20. What do you wish you'd done less of?

As always, procrastinating. I could accomplish so much more in much less time if I wouldn't procrastinate.

21. How will you be spending New Years Eve?

Currently, I have no plans. I hope to find some, though.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?

Unless we're talking about falling in love with TV shows and movies, that would be a big fat negative, as always.

23. How many one-night stands?

I don't do one-night stands.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Gilmore Girls until it ended in May 2007. In its absence, The Office has probably become my favorite show. However, I also enjoyed Chuck, Bones, Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, 30 Rock, Grey's Anatomy, and Friday Night Lights in 2007. Sadly, the writer's strike has currently put a halt to most of these shows.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

No.

26. What was the best book that you read?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Sondre Lerche

28. What did you want and get?

Oh many, many things. I tend to buy whatever it is that I want, within reason. I wanted a trip to London and Paris, and I got that. I wanted an iPod, and I got that. I wanted speakers for my iPod, and thanks to my brother, I got those. I needed smaller clothes, and I got those. I needed a new DVD player, and I got that. And the list goes on and on. Perhaps my New Year's Resolution for 2008 should be to be tighter with my money.

29. What did you want and not get?

A new car. Perhaps one is in my future in the summer of 2008.

30. What was your favorite film of the year?

Dan In Real Life. I saw it three times.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I was a bridesmaid in Sarah's wedding in Creighton, Nebraska. I was 27 years old.

32. What one thing would have made your year measurably more satisfying?

Living in Omaha, or rather, not having a two-hour commute to and from work each day.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?

I spend most of my life in professional dress. Business casual leaning more towards the business than the casual, to be more precise. I wear a lot of dress pants and knit tops, and I love high heels. Shoes are my favorite fashion accessory, but I've been very into jewelry this year. For casual wear, you will find me in jeans and knit tops, whether it's fitted t-shirts or the same tops I wear to work. I'd say about 75% of my wardrobe (including jewelry) is from New York & Company. There is also quite a bit of Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft clothing. There's also the standard Target, JC Penney, and Kohl's clothing thrown in there.

34. What kept you sane?

My roommate, my friends, Livejournal, my faith, and TV.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Steve Carell, and more recently, Tina Fey.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Say what? Honestly, I know little to nothing about politics.

37. Who did you miss?

No one is coming to mind.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Did I meet anyone new in 2007? I know I did, but no one person is sticking out in my mind as the "best."

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.

To quote from the movie Dan In Real Life, be prepared to be surprised.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

I'm not going to say
That you ever stop to think along the way
But baby, be prepared to be surprised
Baby, be prepared to be surprised
It's all I know

I'm not going to state
Obvious observations everybody makes
But baby, be prepared to be surprised
Baby, be prepared to be surprised
You better be prepared to be surprised
It's all I know

The weight of the world
And the hurt and the dirt
Can make you disturbed
But I heard, but I heard
When I wrap my arms around you
Every mistake we made crumbles
When I wrap my arms around you
Everything echoes a new song

I'm not gonna whine
Or scream out I'm so tired
Through the mike
But baby, be prepared to be surprised
Baby, be prepared to be surprised
You got to be prepared to be surprised
It's all I know

The weight of the world
And the hurt and the dirt
Can make you disturbed
But I heard, but I heard
When I wrap my arms around you
Every mistake we made crumbles
When I wrap my arms around you
Everything echoes a new song

I'm not gonna lie
Saying everyone's gonna be alright
And fine until we die
But what else can you do
But hope and pray and save
And we'll get by

Be prepared to be surprised
Better be prepared to be surprised
You got to be prepared to be surprised
It's all I know
