I've slowly been putting up Christmas decorations this week.

Pictures! )

And if only I hadn't discovered two weeks after putting up lights on my balcony that the electrical outlet doesn't work, I'd have more pretty pictures for you. I really hope that the outlet gets fixed this week because I'm going to be annoyed if I spent a Sunday afternoon putting up lights outside in the cold for nothing. (Probably giving myself this ear infection!)

In other news, I am pooped. Yesterday I did laundry, finished a book, put up my Christmas tree and other decorations, and went to a hockey game in Lincoln. Today I went to church, worked for seven hours, went grocery shopping, and came home and did my bible study for tomorrow night. Needless to say, I am exhausted and not at all ready to go back to work tomorrow. I should have rested more this weekend. I'm afraid I overdid it. My ear is acting up again.
Happy birthday to the lovely [personal profile] erries! I hope you have a fantastic day and get spoiled rotten!

Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first song is the title.

Such a poet I am )

Too funny not to post. The best part is, that is often how poetry sounds to me. Incomprehensible.

Bonus points if you know what songs some of these lines are from.
I should have known when the pain in my neck reached unbearable levels, the chills began, and the achy feeling started that I had a fever. And when the tears started, I really should have known. Whenever I have a fever, I start randomly crying at everything. But I took my temperature throughout the day, and it was always below 98 degrees. I just got off the phone with my mom and took it again. 101.4 degrees! I wouldn't care so much, but I am scheduled to be on a flight to Indianapolis in just under 10 hours.

I have taken Tylenol and am now going to drag myself out of the chair, dry these tears, finish packing my cosmetic bag, take a shower, and then try to sleep for a few hours before leaving for the airport. All in hopes of feeling less like death while at the airport and on my flights. The good news is that once I make it to Indy, I'll have my mommy to take care of me. She is the best at taking care of a sick (really whiny) Heather. And this day and age, she's never around when I'm sick. So that will be nice, if I want to look for the silver lining.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! (And I mean that, honestly.)

I am home from DC. The conference was one of the better I've been too, the sightseeing was good, and the time spent with [profile] sarita_m and [personal profile] sillyzilly2k was a blast. But I am exhausted. And sore. So incredibly sore. (Not only does every muscle in my body hurt from the walking and the standing and the luggage carrying, but I have either a pulled muscle or a really swollen gland in my neck. Either way, it frickin' hurts!) What I would like is a day at home to rest tomorrow, but instead I will go to work. I hope to have a post up with details and pics in the near future. However, I also have a busy few days ahead of me, working and getting ready for Indianapolis. I fly there early (EARLY!) Thursday morning. Thanksgiving with my parents should be fun. It's been a long time since I've spent it with them.

Oh, and DC is amazing. I think it's definitely the coolest place I've been in the US.

And now I go pass out for a few hours.

I slept in this morning. I mean, really slept in. Until almost 11. I haven't done that in a long time. Now I'm making chocolate pies for tonight's Suppers 8, doing laundry, catching up on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, and balancing my checkbook. At some point, I need to convince myself to work out and then do either my bible study for Monday night or some of the work I brought home with me this weekend. But reading a book sounds like a much better option.

And now, I leave you with a pointless meme.

Your result for What color crayon are you?...

Forest Green

You are the green crayon. You color the trees and the grass. You are the color of broccoli. You are intelligent and kind. You are very clear about what you want. You do not make quick decisions. You believe in marriage and are very faithful to your spouse. You know how to make a lot of money and your investments are wise ones.

I'm kind of surprised by how proud this makes me. I feel as if my vote actually counted. And as I apparently like to be a bit of a rebel, it makes me proud to know that Omaha has broken the norm here in Nebraska for once!

Because my post of yesterday was so mopey and because I have a slightly rosier outlook on life today, I think it is time for something I saw in [profile] enigmaticblues' LJ. The "Ten Things That Make You Happy" meme.

1. Sunny, 70 degree weather on the first day of November. Absolutely gorgeous!
2. A new bed made of heavenly comfort delivered today.
3. Jon Foreman's Spring and Summer EPs, particularly this song.
4. A good book.
5. Stepping on the scale to discover that I have lost weight this week.
6. An extra hour of sleep tonight!
7. A walk/jog outside, which gave me some much needed exercise as well as time to clear my head.
8. An invitation to attend church with a recent acquaintance tomorrow. I won't have to sit by myself!
9. The knowledge that I'm going to Washington D.C. in a few weeks. I get to meet both [profile] sarita_m and [personal profile] sillyzilly2k!!!
10. A pretty new table runner from Pier 1.

I am getting ready to eat a juicy hamburger and roasted red potatoes for dinner, all made from scratch. And both fairly low on the Weight Watchers points! I am hungry, and I cannot wait. I do enjoy cooking when I actually set my mind to doing it.

In other news, inspired by suggestions given to [personal profile] erries, I went to the grocery store tonight and now have awesome things to eat like hummus, celery (with a bit of organic peanut butter), carrot sticks, Honey Crisp apples, lite cottage cheese and pineapples, and some low-fat chicken apple brats. Guess I need to spend this weekend cooking in and eating all these various fruits and veggies I bought.

Also, when I started watching Pushing Daisies tonight, I realized that I have yet to watch last week's episode. In fact, I have lots of TV to catch up on. The last episode of Bones, two weeks of Chuck, last night's Fringe, and now two week's of Pushing Daisies. Darn my book for captivating me for hours on end!

You guys, I bought gas last night and paid $2.43 per gallon. $2.43 PER GALLON!

And yes, I am so excited about this that I had to make an LJ post.
This is the second episode in a row of Grey's that has made me cry. The emotional aspects of this show are hitting me where it hurts, it seems.

Grey's Anatomy 5x02 )

In other news, I thought The Office was fantastic. Though I'm afraid Holly's days are numbered. I hope I'm wrong because I have finally found a deep affection for her. Tonight, Steve Carell reminded me why I love him.

Squirrels can climb trees, so I shouldn't be surprised they can also climb buildings. But I had no idea! In an attempt to enjoy the gorgeous weather, I'm sitting out on my (third floor) balcony working on my bible study when I hear a scuffle behind my grill. I look to see a squirrel trying to make its way onto my balcony. Cute as it was, I really didn't want it attacking me and giving me rabies, so I shooed it away.

I tell you! It must have climbed up the drain pipe that runs near my balcony. Between the squirrel today and the big ugly spider whose gigantic web I knocked down yesterday, my balcony is becoming a little too "among nature" for my tastes.

Perhaps I should have been glad for the squirrel's company, however. This weekend has been really lonely. Normally I can shake it off pretty easily, but not so much this weekend. I think there may be hormones involved.

Snagged from [personal profile] erries. I think you've all seen this one enough to know what it's about. She picked five of my icons. I explain them below. If you have a burning desire for me to select some of your icons, let me know. Or even if you want to select five more of my icons for me to explain, I'm game for that too.

Icons behind the cut )
At bible study, we always have an ice breaker. Tonight's was something along the lines of if you could have any role in any movie, what would it be? Some people answered it with a certain kind of genre, some with a specific actor, and some a specific type of role (i.e., the female lead in a romantic comedy). I stuck with the specific actor route and indicated that I wanted to be Tina Fey. To which I received the reply, "Who is Tina Fey?"

I feel sorry for these people, really. Thanks, LJ friends, for knowing who Tina Fey is and, in many cases, loving her like I do.

ETA: I'm glad I decided to pick up How I Met Your Mother (or him-yim as I now think of it, thanks to [profile] sarita_m) over the summer. It is de - wait for it - lightful! Oh Barney, how have you won me over so?

You know what is a difficult realization?

I've been researching Omaha churches online, and in so doing, I've been looking at their various singles groups. (Honestly, I'm hesitant about singles groups because they are sometimes "meat markets." But they can also be a good way to meet people your own age who are also of a single status.) Anyway, in doing my research, I have come to realize that as someone who is in her late 20's, I am no longer a "young single." It seems that in nearly every case, the young singles group ranges from 19 to mid-20's. But if you are in your upper 20's or older, you belong to a super-special older singles group. It warms my heart, really. ;-)

I swear, these "late 20's" really snuck up on me. Two years from 30. Yikes! In my head, I'm still 18. Maybe 21.
